FAQ
Should I keep scanning a clicking drive?
No. Physical damage needs a clean-room lab. Logical software can make failing media worse.
What does SSD TRIM mean for recovery?
TRIM can zero deleted clusters. A “Possibly erased by SSD/TRIM” condition means evidence suggests logical recovery may already be impossible.
Why don’t carved files keep original names?
Original filenames require surviving metadata. Signature carving does not reconstruct names.
What is Quick Metadata versus Deep Carving?
They are distinct modes. Quick does not silently become Deep. Deep may generate fallback names when metadata is missing.
Is ReFS or BitLocker supported?
ReFS is unsupported. Locked BitLocker volumes are not decrypted by Datattoo Recovery.
Why are some results Partial or Unverified after recovery?
Those are post-recovery validation outcomes. Pre-recovery recoverability estimates are separate and never guarantee a valid document.
Where are logs stored?
Installed builds use %APPDATA%\DatattooRecovery\Logs. Portable runs use Data\Logs beside the executable. Send redacted excerpts only.
Can I run Datattoo Recovery from a USB drive or memory card?
Yes. Datattoo is fully portable. Copy the signed executable to a thumb drive or memory card and run it from there—no separate Visual C++ Redistributable is required for release builds.
Hardware recovery partners
For flooded, burned, or non-detecting drives, contact a professional data recovery lab. Datattoo Recovery does not provide clean-room services.
