How Datattoo Recovery works

A calm workflow that keeps recoverability estimates separate from post-recovery validation.

  1. Protect the source. Stop writes to the affected drive. Do not scan mechanically failing media (clicking, burnt smell, unreliable detection)—use a hardware recovery laboratory instead.
  2. Select a supported source. Use a drive letter, exposed physical source where available, partition, or raw disk image with an optional partition offset. Unsupported image formats are not advertised.
  3. Choose Quick Metadata or Deep Carving. Quick does not silently become Deep. Deep carving may generate fallback names because original filename metadata may be unavailable.
  4. Review evidence. Inspect name provenance, original-path confidence, allocation conflicts, warnings, recoverability condition, and preview before selecting recovery candidates.
  5. Select a different destination. Free-space checks and source/destination protection help prevent writing recovered data back onto the damaged source.
  6. Recover and validate. Complete, Partial, Unverified, and Failed are assigned after recovery and validation—not before.
  7. Preserve the report. Keep logs, hashes, and warnings. Local logs are stored under %APPDATA%\DatattooRecovery\Logs.

Not hardware repair: If the drive clicks, smells burnt, was submerged, or is not detected reliably, contact a professional clean-room recovery service instead of running logical scans.
